Packs consist of 10 total cuttings – five (5) fig tree varieties with two (2) cuttings of each – that are ideal for growing in Zones 6-7. (See below for varieties contained in this pack.)
All cuttings contained in the pack are from fig trees that have grown in-ground and unprotected here in Lancaster, PA (Zone 6B) and have fruited fairly well for a number of consecutive years. (Protection would no doubt increase yield substantially, but we have been happy with the dependable volume we get every year.) As a result of in-ground growing, the thickness of the cuttings is much better than container-grown trees – these cuttings are large, heavy and full of energy!
Taste of Italy II Assortment Pack includes:
-
Pellegrino: Similar to Longue d' Aout but seems to resist splitting much better.
Bisirri #3: This is one of the long lost figs from Mr. Bisirri in Philadelphia. Bisirri #3 may have been a neighbor’s fig that was stored in Mr. Bisirri’s greenhouse over the winter. It is dark berry and seems to be larger than the average Mt Etna type fig. Thanks to Ricci for this excellent find.
LUV: This Bordeaux fig is very intense. With almost a blue skin, it is unique. The fruit is small-medium and is mid- to late-season. Very thick skin and resists splitting very well.
Red Sicilian: Nice large red to purple fig. It has been very winter resistant. The figs are sweet and mid to late season.
Fico Cerreto: This is an Italian fig that appears to be San Pedro (Breba only). It seems to be an interesting fig with a thick very sweet flavor. This variety also can have a drop of honey on the eye to help prevent splitting. Harvey has described the flavor as slightly melon like.
» Cuttings will have at least 3 nodes with a thickness greater than a pencil (most like a marker) and are about 6-10 inches in length.
» The product image shows actual cuttings from our nursery & is meant to demonstrate the average size of our fig tree cuttings. The photo is not an exact representation of this variety.
