Taste of Italy Pack

$50.00 USD

1 Pack consist of 10 total cuttings – five (5) fig tree varieties with two (2) cuttings of each – that are ideal for growing in Zones 6-7. (See below for varieties contained in this pack.)

All cuttings contained in the pack are from fig trees that have grown in-ground and unprotected here in Lancaster, PA (Zone 6B) and have fruited fairly well for a number of consecutive years. (Protection would no doubt increase yield substantially, but we have been happy with the dependable volume we get every year.) As a result of in-ground growing, the thickness of the cuttings is much better than container-grown trees – these cuttings are large, heavy and full of energy!

Tasters of Italy Assortment Pack includes:

  • Bari: Black fig from Bari, Italy. Good hardiness and rich flavor. We have grown in ground for a few years and shows unique winter resistance.

Cuore di Bue: This is an outstanding Adriatic fig that is similar to Dalmatie. I like this one better because it ripens more uniformly than most other Dalmatie types.

St. Peter’s: St. Peter's comes from the Abruzzo region and is a shiny bronze fig. It is sweet and creamy. It was once sold through Just Fruits and Exotics, but they don't have it any longer. It is split-resistant and is mid-season ripening.

Vito Valentia: This is an unknown from the legend Art in western PA. This is a dark berry fig with a little extra on it. It comes from Calabria, and it is a vigorous tree. Comes back from dieback to produce figs reliably every year.

Rubado: I love this fig. It truly has an acidity to it that reminds me of a jolly rancher. It is so unique, including the purple and green skin which typically has cracking. A very photogenic fig. Only drawback is that it is quite late. I usually get production in October. The figs are excellent, but I don't get many to fully ripen.
