Cold-Hardy Packs consist of 10 total cuttings – five (5) fig tree varieties with two (2) cuttings of each – that are ideal for growing in Zones 6-7. (See below for varieties contained in this pack.)
All cuttings contained in the pack are from fig trees that have grown in-ground and unprotected here in Lancaster, PA (Zone 6B) and have fruited fairly well for a number of consecutive years. (Protection would no doubt increase yield substantially, but we have been happy with the dependable volume we get every year.) As a result of in-ground growing, the thickness of the cuttings is much better than container-grown trees – these cuttings are large, heavy and full of energy!
Tastes of France Assortment Pack includes:
-
Col de Dame Gris: Intense dark berry flavor. Later variety with tight eye, grey blue skin with many layers of flavor. This is my favorite of all the Col de Dame series. It really ripens at least 2-3 weeks before Blanc. I have it in the ground and it is extremely vigorous. It also ripens a fair amount of fruit as well, despite being late.
Joualle Rouge: This is a nice Adriatic type fig. This is a green fig with blood red pulp. It is a late season ripener, but has a tight ripening window. Moderate winter resistant.
Noire de Barbentane: An excellent Bordeaux fig with a flattened shape and a blush. A bit on the late side, but an interesting delicious variety.
Figue de Parfum: This was a delight for me last year. It was a juicy yellow honey fig. I ripened a lot of them and they were all very good. I know there was some talk about it being a San Pedro fig, but the ones ripened last year were most certainly main crop figs. It was mid season. A keeper for sure.
Pastilliere: Early delicious fig with good winter resistance. Plum-like flavor, beautiful color. Way underrated. It will abort all figs the first few years. By the fourth year, it usually keeps half the crop. If you don't have a lot of patience, this fig is probably not for you.
» Cuttings will have at least 3 nodes with a thickness greater than a pencil (most like a marker) and are about 6-10 inches in length.
